About Section House & Ken's Cabin
Section House and Ken's Cabin are unique in that they are historic cabins that were renovated to accomodate backcountry users. Despite the longer ski (or snowshoe) in, Section House and Ken's Cabin are popular with snowshoers and skiers alike because of the gentle slope of Boreas Pass Road. Section House sleeps 12 people in three bedrooms. Ken's Cabin is a single room, intimate hut experience for 2-3 people. Section House and Ken's Cabin are booked separately. Both huts are equipped with wood burning stoves for heat, firewood, propane cook tops, solar and wind powered lights, antique furnishings, mattresses & pillows, cooking and eating utensils (pots/pans/plates/flatware/mugs/glasses) toilet paper, paper towels and cleaning supplies. In addition, the Section House has an oven. The outhouse is shared by guests of Section House and Ken's Cabin. Section House has an upstairs "Hutmasters' Quarters" that is used by Summit Huts maintenance staff and volunteers.
Please see How to Plan a Hut Trip for more information on what to expect and how to make reservations for Section House or Ken's Cabin. Reservations for all Summit Huts are made through 10th Mountain Division Hut Association.
We recently discovered some hut trip footage on YouTube and the links are shared here to give people who have never been a better idea what it's like up at and around the hut.
