Summit Huts Wants YOU... to volunteer
We are a volunteer based organization, and thanks to you, this year has been one of our most successful ever. Volunteering creates bonds and new friendships while supporting our unique venues for the backcountry community. We couldn't do it without you!

Additional Volunteer Opportunities
We usually have need for volunteers for a few other miscellaneous projects, and this summer will be no exception. Please email us if you are interested in something outside the scope of the volunteer day options. We do our best to match projects to groups who are interested in working together, but scheduling and needs do not always line up. The more notice you can give us if you might be interested in a group service project the better chance we can find something that will work for your group.
Never volunteered before and wondering what to expect?
Most volunteer days include hard physical labor, including wood stacking, maintenance projects and cleaning. Some projects are overnight and you are welcome to stay the night at the hut. You will be responsible for your own food and personal items. Please contact Summit Huts for more information regarding specific volunteer days and opportunities. For each day you volunteer at the one of the huts you will earn a free night in the hutmasters' quarters (see below). Space is limited on all volunteer days and appreciation hut overnights, you must reserve your space by calling Summit Huts at 970-453-8583 or e-mail summithuts@colorado.net.
Use of the Hutmasters' Quarters (HMQ)
As suggested by the name, the hutmasters' quarters are used primarily by the hutmasters who maintain the cabins. They are also available to SHA board members and volunteers. Hutmaster shifts are typically sheduled for Sunday to Tuesday nights, leaving Wednesday to Saturday nights available for volunteers. Reservations are made by contacting the office. The reservations for the HMQ are separate from normal reservations and volunteer certificates may not be used to make a reservation in the main part of the cabin. Francie's Cabin and Janet's Cabin each sleep four and have self-contained downstairs quarters, including kitchens and bedrooms. Section House has an upstairs bedroom, while the downstairs kitchen and common area are shared with paying guests. Each volunteer certificate is good for one volunteer and one guest. If you would like to bring multiple guests, you may do so by using more than once certificate per night booked. The HMQs are reserved for one group at a time. If you have any questions on the use of the HMQ, please let us know in advance of your trip.
